A little More About Us
Kim Gillingham - Founder
I’ve always believed that some of the best moments with kids happen when we’re doing something together: making, exploring, wondering, asking questions and seeing where an idea takes us.
I’m also a mom, a teacher, and someone who loves to travel and create experiences for kids. But, like most parents, I know that the reality of family life can be busy.
I’ve taken trips where I wanted to have something fun and meaningful for my child to do, but didn’t want another screen. I’ve planned activities only to realize I needed tape, scissors, string, cardboard, markers… and somehow the car was already full of everything we might possibly need!
I loved the idea of creating experiences for kids, but I wanted them to be simple, portable and ready to go.
That’s where Drop Thought Kids began.
With a background in teaching and a Master’s in Education, I’ve spent years thinking about how children learn best. I know that learning doesn’t always happen at a desk, and some of the best learning starts with a simple question, a new idea or the chance to make something with your own hands.
DT Kids was created to bring that kind of learning into everyday family life.
Our activities are designed for busy families, curious kids and real life. They’re made to travel, whether you’re heading on a plane, taking a road trip, waiting somewhere, exploring a new place or simply looking for something different to do at home. But they’re about more than keeping kids busy. I want DT Kids to give families opportunities to talk beyond the usual “How was your day?” to ask questions, share ideas, laugh, wonder and discover something about each other along the way. Because sometimes the activity isn’t really the point.
The conversation is.
The curiosity is.
The connection is.
My hope is that Drop Thought Kids makes it a little easier to create those moments without having to plan everything, pack everything or fill the car just in case.
So grab an envelope, open it together, and drop a thought.
You never know where it might take you.
Hi Everyone,
My name is Sadie.G. I am 11-years-old. I enjoy readng, playing, writing, Taekwondo soccer, and everything thing about HARRY POTTER. “Job wise” I am my mum’s PR Manager (Public Relations), Creative Director and, most importatly, my mum’s LD (Loving Daughter). In my mum’s book, Jada Mei Mathew’s, the main character is based on me and I’m very honoured. Me, myself and I LOVE to ask questions just ask my mum, my family, my teachers and my friends, the list goes on. Luckily, my mum is super curious just like me and loves all of my question so don’t be afraid to ask them. We have great discussions about literally everying. If you are also super curious check out the activities on this site. I’d love to hear your ideas and questions, if you have any email us.
Have a great day, Sadie
When my mum was writing Jada Mei Mathews She’d get up at 4:00 a.m. just to get her “Me Time” in and write. When I’d get up she would be sat there typing away. I’d ask her to read me her next chapter. Sometimes she’d laugh at a part and I would too. At other times, she’d laugh and I’d just shake my head. I made sure she only kept the good bits in for all of you.
I’m an early riser. Sometimes I wake up on my own and at other times my dog wakes me by running into the room and barking.
I LOVE football! I’ve been playing since I was 3 and have the best coaches.
My friends and I made up a problem solver team. Unfortunately, the only problem we had to solve was, “Who made that dot in my friend’s workbook?” and “How to Get the Hat Off the Top of a Tube Slide that your Teachers Won’t Let You Climb?”
I think Nutella, Ice Cream and Kiwi should be served every day but my mum doesn’t seem to agree.
I love my cat, dog and mum. I love Jada Mei Mathews and I hope you do too.
Send a message and say hello.
